The opening ceremony of the 2011 World Figure Skating Championships was held on April 27 in Moscow. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin attended the ceremony and promised that the organizers of the event "will do their best to ensure that the competition is held at the highest level and that all the athletes, sports professionals, and journalists feel comfortable in Moscow."
